Successful love-transformation coach and medical sales professional Shay Levister of Shay Better Coaching is out on a mission to make a significant difference for Black women in the professional arena. She is using her voice to call for racial justice for African-American workers who have experienced direct and indirect unfair treatment in their professional lives.
Shay Levister, also known as Shay ‘Your Love Diva,’ is a certified love coach and a best-selling author. She is also a master practitioner in Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) and Rapid Transformational Therapy (RTT). She founded Shay Better Coaching to pursue her passion for helping people find and attract the right romantic relationships for them.
Through Shay Better Coaching, she has worked with famous personalities who were looking for love. This led her to be featured in several media outlets such as TV One’s Fatal Attraction, among others. More than her quests in love, Shay is taking on a major mission of calling for racial justice in the corporate world.
Her mission arose from a personal experience, which she holds close to her heart. After nearly seven years of working for Amarin Pharma, taking home five top performance awards, and helping the company garner an estimated amount of $8,000,000, Shay was deemed as a top performer at work. When a recently hired co-worker reported a false claim about her, the company put more weight in the false claims of her white counterpart despite her years of tenured success in the company.
“The situation hurts and cuts deep. My word automatically holds less weight because of the color of my skin,” says racial justice advocate Shay Levister. As a Black woman, she continued to endure more insensitive comments and unfair treatment at work. She would often hear people suggest that her success was the result of cheating, or some would compliment her for being quite “smart for a black girl.” She also noticed her numbers dropping whenever she would go to work with braided hair.
After witnessing how upper management undermined the situation despite her formal complaint, she felt that she was never going to be enough in that corporate world. “As Black women, we are taught that we have to be 10 times better in order to be equal, but the years of dedicated hard work and success wasn’t enough. Being the top producer in my district for seven straight years and winning countless contests, even when it threatened my health, could never be enough.” From that experience, she realized that she needed to see her worth, not only as an employee of that company but more so as a person. Without being given a chance to defend herself from the false claim, racial injustice became clearer to her eyes.
She realized how African-Americans have been enduring this reality at their workplace for so many years. To give back to her community, she wanted to use her voice to shed light on this issue, not only for her sake but for the sake of her fellow Black Americans. By sharing her narrative, she hopes to show others the importance of speaking up for themselves.
Currently, Shay is advancing her call for racial justice. At the same time, she continues to help her clients at Shay Better Coaching grow and discover better versions of themselves just as she did after the painful experience she had gone through.
